Congratulations to Monmouth Comprehensive School students who received their GCSE examination results this week.

After such a challenging and disrupted two years they excelled, achieving exceptional results.

Every student achieved at least five qualifications, with over 80% at 5 or more grade Cs or above and 40% at 5 or more A/A*.

Overall, nearly 90% of all results were at C grade or above and 36% at A/A*. 25 students achieved 10 or more grades at the very highest level of A*/A.

These excellent results have been achieved through the hard work, determination and ambition of students, parents and staff. With all this success, it is the individual stories of personal endeavour to achieve their very best that reveal the resilience of our students.

Director of Learning for Key Stage Four, Mrs M Davies, said “The past two years have been very difficult for our Year 11 cohort. The students have had to deal with the ever-changing decisions around their qualifications but they have not let this impact on their focus.

’’They have been motivated, driven and determined to succeed.

’’We are very proud of each and every one of them. We are looking forward to welcoming many of our students back into our Sixth Form, where we are hoping the life of a student will be far more ‘normal’ than it has been over the past couple of years. I know many students are looking forward to starting their AS, A Level or BTEC courses with us. We also wish the students who are taking their next steps elsewhere the best of luck for the future”.

Mr H Hutchison, Headteacher, spoke of his enormous pride in students and staff. Mr Hutchison explained “Our students have performed phenomenally well, and we have huge admiration for how they have risen to the unique challenges of recent times. Our staff have also been relentless in their endeavours to support student achievement, and parents and carers have played a vital part in supporting and guiding students in difficult circumstances. We look forward to welcoming students back in September.”
