E-CIGARETTES could be banned in all Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) buildings. At a meeting last Thursday (26th June) county councillor Tony Easson put forward a motion to kick start discussions about the safety of e-cigarettes. E-cigarettes are designed as an aid to help smokers quit, but as they contain nicotine they impose a risk of addiction for those who do not smoke. Cllr Easson expressed his concern that e-cigarettes could also be seen as an alternative to smoking and may even lead to smoking real cigarettes. Councillors voted unanimously for Cllr Easson's motion where the council will "take appropriate advice and determine the prohibition or otherwise" of the use of cigarettes in council buildings. Council leader Peter Fox said: "This motion is a good way to start discussions. "We will go forward to seek appropriate advice and bring it back for discussion."
