THERE are some exciting upcoming events at Monmouth’s Savoy, including a comedy special with Dylan Moran, Tadiwa Mahlunge and Naomi Cooper on Friday, June 6, at 8pm.

Comedian, actor and writer Dylan won a Perrier Award at the Edinburgh Fringe in 1996 and is looking forward to bringing his stand- up show to the Wye Valley.

Winning a BAFTA for his Channel 4 sitcom which he co-wrote and starred in, he has since gained numerous awards for his work.

Dylan’s film credits include Shaun of the Dead, Notting Hill and Run Fatboy Run.

The opening comedian is Tadiwa Mahlunge, a must-see comedian according to Rolling Stone and Funny Women finalist Naomi Cooper.

Another event is ‘Another Audience without Jake Thackray’ on Saturday, June 7, at 7.30pm, in honour of the local troubadour who lived for some 30 years in the Monmouth area and is honoured with a bust in the Savoy.

John Watterson is renowned as a brilliant interpreter of Jake’s works, with Thackray recognised for being one of the greatest English songwriters of the 20th century.

John Watterson is the UK’S leading performer of Jake’s songs, and has appeared on radio including Radio 4’s Great Lives, and a Radio 2 documentary.

Also coming to the Savoy are Kiki Dee and Carmelo Luggeri on Sunday, June 22, at 7.30pm.

Kiki, who scored a No 1 hit with Don’t Go Breaking My Heart with Elton John, is a renowned British singer, actress and songwriter and her partnership with Carmelo Luggeri who is a guitarist, writer composer and producer.

The Savoy are also welcoming Bath Opera for the first time on Friday, June 27, at 7.30p, for a performance of renowned opera La Traviata.
