SIR, Could we, through your letters column, thank the gentleman who rescued a duckling from the rear of Cornwall House car park on the afternoon of Saturday 26th April and returned it to Cornwall House garden? Until then we had been unaware that a duck was nesting on our garden wall, high above the car park. On investigation, we discovered there were another eight ducklings in the nest at risk of the falling into the car park as the nest was already very full. We contacted City Wildlife Care in Newport and their on call officer came up to Monmouth straight away and removed ducklings and mother to safety in an aviary at their HQ. On Sunday morning, we found another duckling still in the garden and the same officer from City Wildlife Care returned to collect it. He told us that mother and ducklings were doing fine and were going to be relocated to a safe part of the canal bank near Newport on Sunday afternoon. We were most impressed by the prompt and caring service from City Wildlife Care and are sure that mother and ducklings will be safer in their new home than they were on top of our garden wall. Jane Harvey and John Wheelock (Monmouth)
