SIR, It's great news that Monmouth Town Council unanimously recommended refusal of the Dixton Road retail development but the fight isn't over. The next step will be for Monmouthshire County Council's (MCC) Planning Committee to decide if the retail development goes ahead or not. The meeting may take place in April. It is really important that we get the message across to MCC that the proposed retail unit is not good for the town. It is significant over-development on a site that floods regularly and is close to schools. It goes against MCC's own planning policy to protect the vitality of its town centres let alone the over-whelming traffic and road safety concerns. Please go to http://www.monmouthshire">www.monmouthshire. gov.uk/planning to lodge your objections to the development. The planning application number is DC/2013/01071. Thanks to all those hundreds who have already done so, and let's hope the County Council take the sensible decision like the Town Council did.
