Demolition has started at the former Dixton Clinic, empty and an eyesore since it's closure more than 10 years ago. In 2009, a government planning inspector rejected plans to build 24 apartments on the site and Redcliffe Homes Ltd launched an appeal against the refusal of Monmouthshire County Council to give consent to the scheme. In 2011, residents of the Burgage and town councillors demonstrated against the proposals and believed access to the site should be straight from the New Dixton Road. But in 2013, planning was approved by county planners to demolish the old clinic and build 20 apartments on the site. Monmouth town councillors were concerned that this proposal had been given the go ahead despite objections from residents of the Burgage, whose road will provide access to the site.
