Monnow bridge
Monnow bridge is a grade I listed historic landmark in the heart of Monmouth. The river Monnow flows beautifully beneath it and it tends to be a popular, tourist hotspot for having picnics near or even just overlooking the scenic river.
The bridge itself holds a lot of history, it is the only remaining fortified river bridge in Great Britain with a gate tower on the bridge.
Bridge towers were popular in medieval times but due to urban expansion many were destroyed.

Shire Hall
Shire hall is one of Monmouth’s historic buildings in Monmouth. The building is known for hosting the trial of chartist leaders in 1840 following the Newport rising, which was a huge event in historic times.
The building was built in 1724 as the county court for Monmouthshire, but now it Shire Hall serves as a venue for community activities, council meetings and much more.

The Monmouth castle
Monmouth castle is another historic landmark which stands in Monmouth town hidden just behind the hustle and bustle of Monnow Street.
The castle was founded in the 11th century by Norman lord William fitz Osbern, and by the mid- 14th century it was in the hands of Henry of Grosmont.

Unfortunately, there are only ruins left of the castle, but it was once a important building as King Henry V of Battle of Agincourt fame was born at the castle.
Since 1647 it was then reused and built over by Great Castle House which became the headquarters and regimental museum of the Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers.
The castle was damaged during the English Civic War, the castle site was partially reused with the construction of Great Castle House, which now houses the Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers (Militia) and the Regimental Museum.
St Mary's Priory Church
St Mary’s Priory Church was made a grade II listed building in 1952 was an anglican church also holds a lot of history dating back to its founding as a Benedictine priory in 1075.

The church has since evolved from a monastic church to a parish church in the twelfth century.
St Mary's priory church is the tallest building in Monmouth as the glided cockerel weathervane in 206ft from the ground.
