SIR, More news from the wretched Wonastow Road proposed development, with more land and housing added at adjoining Trewen by order of the governing inspector; in total now 450 dwellings, bringing with it additional need for access, sewage and water, and yet more need for flood alleviation. This land, in the reasoning of the inspector, should enable the density of the housing on the Wonastow Road to be reduced. It now stands to reason that the present application must be withdrawn, and a detailed joint planning application should be made for the entire site, which of necessity must include revised and detailed impact assessments and surveys relating not only to flood alleviation, traffic, water and sewage needs, but details regarding plans for school places, health provision, and parking in the town. Natural Resources Wales, along with the Lower Wye Valley drainage board, are already concerned enough with the difficulties of dealing with surface water flooding that they are calling on the planning department at MCC to seek further professional independent advice into these matters. This development scheme must be viewed as a whole. Surely what we want from the chief planning officer, George Ashworth, is some proper integrated planning, not simply building by numbers, which is what is on offer. We have in the town Councillor Hacket Pain for education, Councillor White a school governor, and Councillor Edwards, chair of planning. We have AM Nick Ramsay, and MP David Davies. Are they happy with present developments? I think that they should be asked as they do have the responsibility for the future. It is not good enough to simply say, "we need more housing". We need planning, in the right place. Not simply building by numbers. We need all voices to be heard, all voices. Michael Jones (Wonastow Road)
