MADAM,

There is a derelict three-storey building in the Agincourt Square side of Monnow Street approximately half/ three-quarters of the way up.

It has, apparently, been in this condition for some time now and, although many local people may have got used to it, many tourists will have noticed its presence and condition, and may well have allowed it to ‘colour’ their overall opinion of Monmouth and local people generally.

Who owns or is responsible for it? What, if anything, has been or is being done about it? If something is being done, then what and when? If not, why not?

Of course, even with the partitioning across the front of the ground floor, the structure itself may well settle matters - and cause serious structural damage to adjacent buildings - by joining the street below and injuring (or even killing) drivers, passengers and/or pedestrians in the process.

In would be ‘unfortunate’ if the last memory of a local or tourist is a visit at high speed with so-called ‘blues and twos’ to the A&E at Nevill Hall hospital following an encounter with falling masonry.
