YOUNG Leaders from The Dell School interviewed Welsh rugby star Ian Gough during a recent visit to the school.

The recently retired lock spent a couple of hours at the Chepstow school on Thursday 11th June and spent his time answering questions from pupils, before signing autographs for them.

Ian retired from rugby, finishing his career with a second spell at Newport Gwent Dragons in May this year.

He gave a talk to the pupils about his international rugby career, how he got into the sport and the attitude and drive needed to follow your passion into a career.

Invited by Amirah Peckham, one of the Young Leaders in Year 6, she took on the role of interviewer after a 20 minute presentation from Ian which included video highlights of his career – with questions submitted by fellow Year 6 pupils.

Headteacher Steve King said: "We try to show our pupils that the leaders and stars of tomorrow are in primary school today and that they have the power to dream and achieve their ambitions.

"Ian's presentation and message was inspirational and helped the children see that they can be leaders of their own futures and destinies."

The Young Leaders' programme has been set-up to raise the profile of P.E. and sport across the school. The group had the idea of approaching inspirational figures and Ian was one of the first to respond to requests sent to a number of sports personalities.
