SIR,
What an outrage! Does Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) not want Monmouth to be a thriving market town with a vibrant town centre?
The decision not to bring the market back to the square is unbelievable.
Without the market, the square and the Shire Hall will look deserted unloved and devoid of any attraction.
It seems that county officials would prefer to leave the market languishing in wasteland at the edge of town and will try to justify their decision by claiming irregular niche markets will increase visitor footfall.
What utter rubbish.
The market must be returned to its rightful and traditional home in Agincourt Square.
There has already been a petition from the shopkeepers of Monmouth.
MCC seem to be ignoring that, but perhaps a petition on behalf of the people of Monmouth will make them understand the depth of feeling about this issue.
We must ensure that this decision is changed.
