SIR
On Thursday 13th September, around 8:30am, a white BMW pulled out of a driveway near Manson Lane into the path of a young motorcyclist. Once on the road, the driver slammed his brakes on causing the rider to brake sharply in an emergency stop. The car then proceeded to pick up speed to 30mph and the biker followed. A few yards further down the road, the car again braked sharply to a near halt with no warning. The biker was again forced to stop quickly and thinking the car was having some difficulty indicated and positioned to overtake. The driver of the car then swerved into the middle of the road and remained there until the rider backed off.
The BMW then resumed the correct lane and built up speed, before stopping again. Once again, the biker indicated and positioned himself to overtake, the car again pulled into the middle of the road and shouted abuse through the open window. Despite clear Learner plates on the bike, this scenario played out several times until the car turned right into Osbaston. Fortunately, due to a biking background and common sense, this particular biker was able to safely handle this hazardous behaviour.
Other than causing a young rider to arrive at his destination harassed and angry, I fail to see the desired result of such actions. The driver clearly felt he was imparting a lesson. If the driver of this car would like to contact me (details available through the Beacon) and discuss his objectives, I would be very happy to hear from him.
