The Punch House is once again hosting a fundraiser organised by local charity 21Plus who support children and young people with Downs Syndrome and their families.
It all kicks off on March 22 (World Syndrome Day) and there will be an afternoon of kids music and entertainment featuring Aziz Ibrahim, former guitarist with the Stone Roses and Asia.
The theme for the day is wearing odd socks and the fun kicks off at 1pm with the aim of raising £3k by dancing their mismatched socks off for two hours as well as competing in a number of challenges all themed around the number 21.
Mum Lucy Bennett said: “Every year we celebrate World Down Syndrome Day on the 21st day of the 3rd month because every person with Down Syndrome rocks an extra copy of chromosome 21.
“Last year we raised an incredible £3,000 and this year we would love to exceed that!
You can donate at their localgiving page by searching for ‘21Plus”.
Lucy added, “You can also give our Facebook page ‘21Plus’ a follow to see all of the action from last year's Danceathon and 21 Challenges and see what to expect this year!”
The charity offers weekly early intervention groups for pre-schoolers, weekly primary aged communication groups, fortnightly youth group for teens and young adults, school support service providing training and support to schools and nurseries, annual programme of training and workshops for parents/carers and professionals, annual speech and sport camp for primary aged children, annual residential camp for teenagers and young adults and family events throughout the year.
Geographically the local charity provides a full support network for the families within the Down’s syndrome community in Monmouthshire, Blaenau Gwent, Torfaen, Newport, southern Powys and surrounding areas. However they will always try to help families who reach out no matter where they live in Wales.
