SIR, I wonder if anyone can remember Billy Kennard and his Dance Band. I always remember when they used to play at the Jeffery's Hall, Raglan every Saturday night for Olde Tyme Dancing. I was then 14 years old. All the young people from Raglan and surrounding areas came to the Olde Tyme Dances. As time went on and I got older Billy Kennard's Dance Band played in all areas of Monmouthshire; little did I know that I would marry his eldest son Gwilym, when courting Gwilym I would always go up to Castle View Tregare, on a Wednesday night, that was practice night for the Band. Billy played Tenor Saxophone and one of the other members played Alto Saxophone. Two saxophones playing together is what I call proper music. We were so lucky in those days to have the Bands all playing great music. Billy Kennard was a wonderful man, both as a musician and entertainer and also as a father-in- law. He was also in Raglan Brass Band like my father Jack Metcalfe and in Raglan Church Choir. He lived in Tregare, but played a very active part in Raglan Community. I went to school with his two daughters, Glenys and Mary, we still meet up from time to time. Joan Saunders (nee Metcalfe), Cwmbran
