SIR,

Thank you to all those who participated in the dads' Monmouth Town Football Club charity match, held at the Sport's Ground on Sunday 25th April.

The charity was the St.David's Hospice Foundation, and the estimated total raised was £2,500, so thanks and congratulations to all involved.

The game was well attended with a great atmosphere.

England V Wales, a battle of the borders fought with a bold and respectful sense of humour, and thankfully for most players, enough substitutes that there was little need for the magic sponges and stretchers waiting on the touch line.

Wales' confident side won 4 – 1 despite England's efforts, which were hindered by the man of the match, Welsh goalkeeper Mr Keane.

Goals were scored for Wales by Mr Bye (an adopted Aussie), Mr Parella (an adopted Italian) and Mr Williams (adopted for the game).

England's saving grace, despite some novel offside flagging and a number of curious corners offered by the referee, was a late goal from Mr Byron, who stepped up to striker and gave us all a smile which saved the reds from a clean sheet defeat.

Special thanks are sent out to Kevin Johnson, without whom this event would not have taken place.

From all the parents of the under sixes and sevens, we thank you for your outstanding organisational skills and the standards you have set for the kids and the club.

Your positive approach is a credit to you and your influence on us all is appreciated.

Best wishes to you and your family.
