TEENAGE cyclist Lewis Oliva took on an Olympic hero at the weekend and is set to fly out for the Commonwealth Games tomorrow (Thursday 30th September).
Lewis, from Devauden, set a personal best for the 200 metres in the qualifying rounds as he attempted to win the senior national sprint title.
This earned him a place in the quarter finals, where he came up against sprinting legend Sir Chris Hoy.
Former Monmouth School pupil Lewis tried every trick in his book but Hoy showed his experience and power, beating Lewis two-nil in a thrilling contest.
Lewis finished in eighth place – top junior in the competition – while Hoy lost to eventual winner Jason Kenny in the semi-finals.
