THREE more men have been sentenced for their part in a daylight town centre attack that left a rival biker gang leader with serious head and face injuries.

Violence erupted in Coleford town centre outside the Angel Hotel on a Saturday lunchtime in April 2025, when members of the Rock Machine Motorcycle Club rushed from a convoy of five vehicles to club the 60-year-old president of The Outlaws' Gloucester and Forest chapter to the ground with iron bars, a baseball bat and a hammer.

They ripped off his leather biker vest and "patches" before racing off, just as some 200 bikers from the Outlaws rolled into the town, parking their bikes around the Clock Tower.

Shoppers were left stunned by the sudden eruption of violence in Market Place around 2.30pm on April 5, 2025, which left Stephen Berkley needing hospital treatment for eight jaw fractures and a bleed on the brain.

The victim had been having fish and chips with his partner in the town square when the attack was suddenly launched.

Emma Mackey, who had seen cars circling and tried to defend him, was also left with a fractured wrist and broken ribs.

Bristol Crown Court heard that members of the Rock Machine Motorcycle Club had shared messages earlier in the day about "putting the Outlaws down" and some were captured on CCTV meeting beforehand in a pub.

More CCTV captured the shocking minute-long attack itself, helping police to track down the gang members involved and trace a Mercedes used in the convoy, which was found burnt out days later 30 miles away at Deerhurst.

Six men were jailed for a total of 27 years last month, and one more remains to be sentenced.

The latest hearing on Wednesday (August 5) saw Joshua Bell from Gloucester jailed for 17 months for violent disorder, while Mark Gibson from Knutsford and Paul Price, from Newport, received suspended jail terms, with all three described as on the "periphery" of the attack.

Acting Detective Sergeant Robert Humphreys of Gloucestershire Police said a club member's leather biker vest, known as a 'cut', "bears the club insignia and also a member's rank within the club".

"I believe it (the attack) was to assert dominance over the other gang,” he added.

"The president was targeted. To take his cut is a big trophy for a rival gang."

Bell, 32, admitted violent disorder and will serve 40 per cent of his 17-month term behind bars and the remainder on licence.

Price, 57, also pleaded guilty, and was jailed for 14 months suspended for two years.

He must also wear an electronic tag for six months and not associate with any motorcycle gang.

Gibson, 56, was found guilty and sentenced to 24 months suspended for two years, plus 50 days of rehabilitative activity.

  • Ashley Lauterdale, 35, of Gloucester – six years six months
