A MONMOUTH teenager has appeared in court and pleaded guilty to the killing of a Dorset golfer.
Morgan Wainewright admitted manslaughter during a hearing at Cardiff Crown Court after a 43-year-old man was found unresponsive in Monnow Street, at around 1.15am on Sunday, June 26.
Andrew Nicholas, from Poole, was taken to hospital but died four days later.
Nineteen-year-old Wainewright, of Mid Summer Way, was remanded in custody until his sentence on December 22. A pre-sentence report was ordered which would go towards determining the length of his custodial term. The court was told Wainewright has no previous convictions.
Mr Nicholas was one of a group of golfers who had travelled to Monmouth for a golf weekend.
Members of his golf club called him “a legend and absolute gentleman”.
He was heavily involved with the club and ran charity and support events through Covid to support the NHS.
His family added: “The hole that has been left in the lives of so many is one that will never be filled, and the pain caused will be with us for the rest of our lives.
“His loss will never be forgotten. The kind words of love and support we as a family have received have been incredible.”
