The Crown at Whitebrook and The Foxhunter at Nantyderry have been featured in the industry-acclaimed 2015 Good Food Guide. The guide, produced by Waitrose, is based on ratings from secret diners who give establishments marks for presentation, atmosphere, taste, innovation and many other pertinent factors for an excellent dining experience. The Crown at Whitebrook gains a place in the guide's prestigious restaurant section. New owner and chef Chris Harrod said: "It has always been my ambition to be a chef since the age of seven. "The listing is fantastic news for the restaurant and recognition for the team." The Crown closed briefly last year when Michelin Star chef, James Sommerin moved to Cardiff to open a new restaurant (which has been given a coveted place in the top 50 eateries in the UK in this year's guide). However, it seems that The Crown is back on track and again heading for foody glory with Chris, who trained under chef Raymond Blanc. The restaurant will also hear later this month if they have been awarded AA rosette or a Michelin star. In the brand new 'pub' section of the Guide, The Foxhunter in Nantyderry, near Usk came in as 30th in this year's first ever top 50 pubs listing. "For the 2015 edition of the guide we have listed our top 50 pubs in order of merit, in recognition of the importance pubs play in the current dining-out scene," said Elizabeth Carter, consultant editor of the Waitrose Good Food Guide. "In 2008, the Good Food Guide started listing the top restaurants in the UK in order of merit. "Now firmly established, a placing in the top 50 is greatly coveted by chefs and restaurateurs." Matt Tebbutt, owner and chef at The Foxhunter was pleased to be included in the new section of the guide. "Great news!" he said, "Its always good to get some recognition for the effort and hard work that go into running a restaurant. "The Good Food Guide is well-respected in the industry, so its especially rewarding to be recognised by them." The Foxhunter was originally a railway stationmaster's house, and is named after the horse ridden by Nantyderry local, Sir Harry Llewellyn in the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games. Foxhunter won the only British gold medal of the games and the pub was duly re-named in his honour.
