THERE will be fierce competition for the 43 seats on Monmouthshire County Council when elections take place around the county on May 1. When nominations closed, there were 124 candidates for the 43 seats on the County authority, which is at present controlled by the Conservative Party. In many of the seats there will be at least three way contests involving the three main political parties. Eight existing councillors are standing down, which means there will be eight new members of the authority after May 1.
