County councillors had their say on the future of tourism in Monmouthshire last Thursday (24th March).Proposals including the return of Monmouth's Tourist Information Centre (TIC) to the Shire Hall, reported in last week's Beacon, were discussed by members of Monmouthshire County Council's (MCC) Economy and Development select committee.Chief officer for regeneration and culture Kellie Beirne said TICs were not a statutory service and should be self-sustaining."If they can raise revenue then that has to be explored," she said."At the moment services are not connected properly," she added, "I worked for a day in Chepstow TIC and they closed down at 1pm for lunch so went over to the museum and they had closed too."We had a great response to the report, with 60 responses and two petitions signed by more than 1,000 people."
