MADAM,

Just a reminder that the town council will be debating the future of Chippy playground next Monday, 16th January at 7pm in the Council Chamber, Shire Hall.

It is thanks to the work of Friends of Chippenham Mead (FoCM) that the playground is on the agenda at all. Chippy playground is Monmouth’s invisible playground, too tucked away to have formed the ‘social glue’ necessary for a community group of long-standing. Few knew of it and fewer cared until last March, when a group of us got together and dared to dream that things could be different. We reasoned that £85,000 is a lot of money to spend where nobody will see it, even if it is almost half of the £145,000 the county council first proposed when they consulted the Town Council in 2014.

Please come along next Monday to show the Town Council you care. Don’t let our elected representatives shirk their duty towards what ought to be Monmouth’s ‘destination playground’. If you can’t make it to the Shire Hall, send your apologies in advance via [email protected] and I’ll pass them on. FoCM will be holding a meeting straight afterwards in the Punch House to discuss our fundraising goals and you are warmly welcome to attend.
