SIR,

In their wisdom, or lack of it, Monmouthshire County Council have decided to charge residents for the collection of garden waste starting sometime after June 2013.

Councillors must have decided that we do not need to recycle as much garden waste as we have been doing in the past.

I believe that it is obvious that many residents are most unlikely to pay for the recycling. If the skip is still available at Troy Depot, residents may take the garden waste there.

Otherwise I suspect that there will be an increase in garden fires or a large amount of fly-tipping.

I realise that fly-tipping is illegal, inconsiderate and may in the long run cost the council far more than the current free collection service.

I respectfully suggest that councillors reconsider their ill-thought out decision.
