A CONCERT organised with the aim of raising money for the Devauden Defibrillator Fund has been cancelled because of a lack of interest.

The event was due to be held on Saturday 30th November at Devauden Village Hall.

Villagers are close to raising the full £2,400 needed for a life-saving defibrillator, and after organising a number of events over the past few months, they are on a final push to get the device purchased and fitted in the newly renovated red telephone box in the centre of the community.

"As we live in a remote area, the response times for ambulances arriving in time to give critical support to cardiac arrest patients are greatly reduced. This is where the defibrillator can save lives," said a fund spokesperson.

Devauden Community Council has acquired three phone boxes within its ward, with the hopes of using the one in Itton as a mobile library, and the one in Cobbler's Plain as a map station.

Due to perform at the exciting concert was the popular Pontypridd Male Voice Choir, a solo by Ben Smith from the famous Only Men Aloud, and The Royal College of Music.

There is hope that the event can be rescheduled for spring 2014.
