Open letter to Paul Matthews, chief executive of Monmouthshire County Council

SIR,

I would like to add my voice to those in Monmouth who are expressing concern over the ditching of the 'pinch point' trial in Monnow Street and Agincourt Square.

As a resident and business owner in the town centre, I have had a supportive interest in the 'shared space' vision for the town centre outlined by the Hamilton-Baillie recommendations.

I am disappointed to learn that, despite what I perceive to be a good level of support, the initiative seems to be being dropped.

I think that many of those who have not given support to the pinch point trial have not understood its place in the larger picture of recommendations.

I would hope that the council might reconsider its position and continue with recommendations which are supported by many Monmouth residents.

Andrew Michie
