Community groups are set to benefit after county councillors gave the thumbs up to a number of requests for funding.

The Lower Wye Area Committee had £15,000 to spend before the end of the financial year, with groups, schools and community councils all applying for cash for various projects.

At a meeting last Wednesday (23rd February) at St Arvans Meeting Rooms, members agreed not to fund town and community councils as these had their own precepts.

This put an end to bids by Mathern Community Council to refurbish a war memorial and by committee member Councillor David Dovey for a notice board in the Bayfield area of Chepstow.
