Youngsters from all over Monmouthshire enjoyed taking part in a five-day tennis course last week.

Around 90 children raised their rackets to improve their serves, volleys and backhands on the courts at Haberdashers' Monmouth School for Girls.

The course ran from Monday 22nd to Friday 26th August, with sessions split into five to seven-year-olds, eight to 11-year-olds and 11 to 16-year-olds.

This was the second week of its kind held this year, with the first taking place in July.

This year, there was a 100 per cent occupancy, but Chris Davies, senior LTA club coach, is looking to grow the club.

"We'd like to increase the amount of children we can take," he said.

"They range in standards from very beginners to more advanced players and it's great to encourage it as tennis is a game for life.

"This is also a great way to train new coaches.

"It's not just established coaches teaching here, but we are seeing trainee coaches develop."
