Llandenny WI

Alison Morgan welcomed nineteen members and visitors to the February meeting of Llandenny W I.

A vote was taken by members on five resolutions, that will be taken forward for further discussion at the NFWI Annual Meeting later this year for a say in local and national campaigns. Resolutions were; a call to increase potential stem cell donor registration, end modern slavery, female crash dummies, time to talk about death and dying and protecting our precious helium.

The Gwent Federation are holding the Annual Quiz at Usk Memorial Hall on Friday 27 March and Llandenny WI are entering a team.

On Saturday 14 March, The Gwent Federation are holding Welsh Royal Show Competition Day at Usk Memorial Hall. Llandenny WI members are entering the themed ‘Oceans in Crisis’ Co-operative Competition. The winner will represent Gwent at the Royal Welsh Show in the summer.

Members agreed that they would like to continue with lunches out and Chris Hill is arranging another lunch for Tuesday 25 February at The Star on the Hill, Llansoy for 12.30pm.

The speaker for the evening was Ally Gallivan who gave an enthusiastic talk about Blood Bikes Wales, a charity dependent on volunteers and donations that delivers an out of hours courier service at weekends and on bank holidays, totally free of charge for the NHS, delivering urgent blood supplies, donated breast milk to neonatal units and other vital items to the NHS throughout the whole of Wales.

This saves thousands of pounds for the NHS which can be spent on patient care. The service covers the whole of Wales with bike riders often working in relays, making over 15,000 deliveries in a year.

The next meeting for Llandenny WI is on Wednesday 4 March and the talk will about Tai Chi.

Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 7.15 pm in Llandenny Village Hall. Visitors and new members are assured of a warm welcome.
