TODAY, (Wednesday 17th June) local people are joining a mass lobby of MPs in London to let their political representatives know their views on climate change
In Chepstow, local community members have been preparing for the lobby for some time, making colourful bunting that will express their concerns about climate change.
Similar bunting will be brought to London from all corners of the country to show the new Government the huge breadth of support from thousands of people nationwide.
Many campaigners have arranged to meet with their MPs to press them to take action urgently on climate change.
Children from Chepstow Methodist Church's "Messy Church" have already made their contribution to the bunting, and members of the church added their concerns last Sunday.
Liz David is going to London as the group's representative and has arranged a meeting with David Davies MP.
Liz said: "I am heading to London to ask David Davies to take action for the climate because not acting will affect so many of the things we care about – our families, our food, our wildlife and our futures.
"Our friends in Kenya are already experiencing changes which are radically changing their lives. We must act now."
Chepstow Methodist Church has links with community groups in Kenya, who are already feeling the effects of climate change.
Ken, who lives in Watamu in Kenya and co-ordinates several community groups, said: "Climate change is real and we in Kenya are feeling the impact of destruction we are doing on the environment."
The main changes he has noticed in recent years are delays in the start of the rainy season and floods in areas that have never seen floods before.
The mass lobby is being organised by a coalition of groups that are dedicated to taking action on climate change.
They want to put pressure on MPs right at the start of the new Parliament and before international negotiations on climate change take place in December.
