This year, Monmouth Town Council is planning two special Christmas events. One on Sunday afternoon of 7th December and the other, the following Thursday evening, 11th December.
On Sunday, come and help decorate the Christmas tree opposite the Oldway Centre, Monnow Street.
Everyone is invited to bring their own contribution to hang, between 2pm and 4pm. Safety will be ensured by councillors and members of Monmouth Rotary. There will be music and organisers have begged Father Christmas to come by on his sleigh. All very welcome, with or without your baubles and bells.
To take part in the second event, meet at the Old Monnow Bridge, where from 5.30pm you can collect your free Christmas light. The candlelit procession sets off at 6pm.
The procession will be led up Monnow Street to Agincourt Square with its Christmas tree and food market, by the Wind Players from Monmouth Comprehensive School. There, you will be greeted by the Town Band.
This year, the Shire Hall doors will be open from 6.15pm, so children won't have to wait so long to visit Father Christmas in his magical grotto.
On stage there will be carols and entertainment by the wonderful Savoy Youth Theatre (including some very young singers indeed), and the singing sisters RS Harmony.
Organisers are keen for all those attending to join in with carols. Prizes will be awarded for the best fancy dress. The council have lots more 'candles' this year, in case the crowds break last year's huge turnout. Both events free.
