AN ALTER frontal that went missing from a Shirenewton church has been temporarily replaced by Sunday school children.
The original red Pentecost alter frontal was presented to St Thomas a Becket Church in Shirenewton in 1955, but was discovered to be missing in April of this year.
Children from the Shirenewton Sunday School designed and created a temporary replacement out of tissue paper in time for the important celebration.
Pentecost, or Whitsunday, is usually celebrated seven weeks after Easter Sunday or 50 days after Easter.
A parishioner said that the original frontal’s disappearance could be for a number of reasons, and that they hoped it was merely borrowed.
However, after checking with churches in the area, they had accepted that it was not likely to be returned.
The children from the Sunday Club, led by Gilly Lambert and Lynn Morcombe, made a new frontal out of tissue paper in time for Pentecost.
The artists in question were Dexter and Ben Morcombe (pictured), Maya, Harry and Lucy Thomas, and Daniel Morcombe.
On a happy note, a parishioner has volunteered to make a new, long term replacement for the alter frontal.
