Chepstow fire department saw a busy time last weekend with two significant blazes in the town.

In Garden City, in the early hours of Saturday morning, residents were woken by a series of explosions. The fire brigade were called and a Chepstow crew attended. Two of the residents were taken to hospital for precautionary checks but were uninjured. The cause is, as yet, unknown.

Then, on Monday morning (25th March), a large fire was discovered at Adrian Gaunt, the jewellers.

Fire crews from Chepstow and Usk attended. The fire, thought to be electrical, broke out in the ceiling of the shop.

"It's just one of those unfortunate things," said Mr Gaunt, "We had the whole place rewired when we moved in so I have no idea how it happened."

Staff were shaken by the fire which has caused extensive smoke damage to the shop and to stock. However, no one was injured in the blaze.
