LOCAL professional pianist, composer and teacher Yvonne Lewis, supported by Chepstow Town Council, is organising a series of concerts in 2015 to raise money for an excellent acoustic piano for Chepstow's Drill Hall.
The aim is to have a good instrument in situ so that everyone in the community and beyond can enjoy performing and listening to music in the hall. The hope is that amateurs and professionals of all styles and standards will be attracted to the Drill Hall to help keep music live.
As a precursor to the Chepstow Makes Music series Yvonne will be helping to raise awareness by hosting a workshop called 'Rediscovering the Piano' on Sunday 22nd March from 2pm to 4.30pm.
Aimed at adults it's an opportunity to experience a fresh approach to playing the piano within a fun and friendly group. All standards (grade 2 plus) and styles are welcome.
The first of three concerts will begin on Saturday 16th May with the Chepstow Piano Academy. The standard is high and the young local talented pianists aged from six to 16 will be performing a delightful and varied programme of solos, duets and two piano works.
It is hoped that a host of special guests from the local and county councils and school music departments will be supporting this event.
The second concert is a musical duet by Yvonne and her musical partner Denise Todd (violin) who will return to the Drill Hall after their sell-out concert last year to treat you to a fabulous and entertaining programme of your favourite movie themes on the 19th September. The final concert will be a collaborative event with Karl Daymond and his singing group and invited pianists of all ages and styles. It's bound to be a fun, surprising and memorable occasion.
