Keen Monmouthshire recyclers have helped to raise £490 for Abergavenny Mind and Children's Units at Hospitals in Abergavenny and Newport. From Christmas to Easter Monmouthshire Community Recycling (MCR), a recycling company employed Monmouthshire County Council (MCC), donated £20 for every tonne of old textiles collected for recycling in Monmouthshire. The collected cash went to the chosen charities of MCC's Chairman from last year, Chris Woodhouse. A total of 24 tonnes of clothes were collected for recycling, an improvement on last years quantity of just over 17 tonnes, which means less landfill space taken up, and clothing for countries who need it. Chris Woodhouse, former MCC Chairman said: "Recycling is important, and people sometimes forget that clothes can be recycled alongside paper, cans and glass in the black box. Saving landfill space is very important to keep this county green and pleasant." Nearly all of the textiles MCR collects are sorted and sent to countries in the developing world and anything left over that cannot be re-used, is made into rags. As long as clothes are kept clean and dry, MCR will collect them. For more information on the black box scheme visit http://www.monrecycling.co.uk">www.monrecycling.co.uk
