SIR, I have some sympathy with both views expressed in last week's Beacon on payment for Waitrose parking, even though those views conflict. I have no objection to paying for parking when it is reimbursed, but it is irritating to always remember to have £2.50 in change. A simple solution would be for the payment to be reimbursed at the checkout in cash rather than being deducted from the bill. This would allow the original £2.50 to be kept and re-cycled at each visit. To add machines that accept credit cards would be unnecessarily expensive. In addition, any customer visiting Waitrose twice weekly but who does not clear the balance on the card each month, would be paying interest on £20. I am advised that change is available at the Help Desk but this is not the answer. I do not want to walk into the store, queue for change, walk back into the carpark to get a ticket from a machine and then re-enter the store. Supermarkets face competition and it is in their interests to make shopping simple. Your two original correspondents did not wish to have their names and addresses publicised. Surely they are not afraid of retaliation from Waitrose? Dr Daphne Pearson (Redbrook)
