The giant Town Quiz Trail is under way across the town, with over 80 businesses signed up. The colourful posters adorn shop windows, each featuring a question. Shops, pubs and restaurants have donated dozens of prizes. Residents and visitors now have until Carnival Day on 25 June to follow the Quiz Trail, sniff out the questions and submit their entries.

Organiser Keith Mortimer said, “The response has been amazing. But please don’t worry – you don’t have to answer all eighty-odd questions! Half of the prizes will be awarded for highest scores, and half at random, so everyone who sends in an entry has a chance to win a treat.”

Entry forms are from the Carnival website and in town at the Shire Hall, Savoy Theatre, Salt and Pepper, Timpsons, Car Care, Waitrose, Handyman House and Spar (Kings Fee). Entries may be submitted during the following ten days using Carnival Postboxes installed at these premises, or during the Carnival, and online. Read more at [email protected].

Mortimer added, “The quiz questions are for all ages, some to test local knowledge and observation, and others just for fun. If you need some help, you can put your head round the door of any shop for a clue – and you can get to know your local businesses too.”

The theme of this year’s Carnival is “Time.” The Tardis has already been spotted in Agincourt Square, and more surprises are likely. Meanwhile, many shops are already dressing up their windows (and themselves) in historical fashion ready for the festive weekend from 23-25 June. The Best Dressed Business will be entitled to proudly display the Carnival Cup, kindly donated by Timpsons, and their staff will be treated to a free session at Borderlands Outdoor Pursuits.

As the organisers have announced, “This year Monmouth Carnival means business!” Certainly their hard-working committee is on track to brighten up our town, so that everyone is a winner.
