THE Burnt Barn Social Club hosted the selection of this year’s Chepstow ComBaT Carnival King and Queen on Friday 28th April.
The open social evening included disco entertainment, refreshments, and free hot dogs and burgers for all.
Judges Pamela and Clive Anstice and Ken Vowles had the difficult task of choosing the 2017 king and queen plus their attendants from a record number of entrants.
Pamela, Clive and Ken’s final selection was: Carnival King, 10-year-old Bryan Morgan; Carnival Queen, 17-year-old Shakirah Watts; king’s attendant, nine-year-old Callum England and queen’s attendant, eight-year-old Ffion Lewis.
Bryan received a cheque for £50 donated by the Burnt Barn Club to fund his carnival outfit, whilst Shakirah received a similar £50 cheque.
Callum and Ffion each received £25 cheques from Chepstow ComBaT for their outfits.
On carnival day Bryan Morgan and Shakirah Watts will lead the procession, chauffeur-driven by Paul Coombes in his 1952 Armstrong Siddeley Whitley. The carnival parade will assemble at Pembroke Primary School on Sunday 28th May at 11.30am ready for march off at noon to Thornwell Football Club, where an afternoon of entertainment is planned.
