A CAR crashed into the wall of a restaurant in St James's Street, Monmouth, this morning (Wednesday 28th May). A middle-aged woman was extricated from her car and taken to hospital in a stable condition. The Fat Cock & The Swan sustained considerable damage as a result of the collision. Matt Jones, fire service station manager, said: "We received a call saying a vehicle had crashed into the building. "Officers from Usk, Monmouth and specialists from Malpas were called to assist in the incident. "We were advised by USAR (urban search and rescue) who came along to check the structure of the building to make sure it was safe. "The woman was extricated from the car as was standard procedure. Although she was in a stable condition we wanted to make sure no further damage was done." Jackie Keeley, co-owner of The Fat Cock & The Swan said: "I heard a large bang that echoed for a while afterwards." Jennifer Cock said: "I always knew it was a dangerous road so it wasn't too much of a surprise that something like this happened."
