In just three weeks more than 1,000 people have added their names to the petition for the reinstatement of CCTV in Monmouth. Chamber of Commerce Secretary, Brian Ramsey said:

"We feel that this clearly demonstrates that there is a public need for CCTV in the town and we hope that the Town Council will now accept that the issue is not just the concern of traders and businesses in the town. We have consistently stated that this is a community safety issue that affects everybody regardless of whether they live here, work here or come to the town to shop or visit as tourists.

"I would like to thank all those who have had petitions on their premises for the work that they have done in raising awareness of the issue with their customers."

Denise Jones of Hair and Beauty Studio, whose business was burgled four times in 2008, said:"The response has been amazing, people have needed no convincing when we have told them about the petition and they have been extremely keen to add their name to the list."

The petitions will be presented to the Town Council this Friday, April 3rd, at 10am. Come along and show your support by assembling outside the Tourist Information Centre at 09.55 on Friday morning.
