On September 30th Chepstow Racecourse once again plays host to the second running of the William Hill Camel Derby in aid of Paul’s Place, the Bristol-based charity that supports adults with physical, sensory and cognitive impairments.
Nine jockeys will contest this year’s event with three qualifying heats along the Chepstow Racecourse home straight with the William Hill Camel Derby being the concluding race of the day.
This year’s jockeys include Jenny Prest from sponsors William Hill, Top NH jockey Sam Twiston Davies, Model Lystra Adams, three day event rider Chelsea Pearce (daughter of former England football international Stuart Pearce) and Trainer/QC Graeme McPherson.
Howard Burdett and Nathan Ellis make up the other audacious camel jockeys. All are helping to raise funds for Paul’s Place and donations can be made at the riders just giving pages.
The inaugural William Hill Camel Derby was won by Charlie Hancock’s wearing the distinctive colours of Owner JP McManus; all of this year’s jockeys will again be sporting colours from other leading owners who are supporting the race.
Chepstow Racecourse Marketing Manager, Damian Downey said: “’re delighted that we can again host the William Hill Camel Derby and help to raise money for the wonderful charity, Paul’s Place. I would like to thank everyone that has so far donated and commend the generous supporters who will contribute to this cause during the remainder of the month and even beyond.”
