A charitable business owner has for the third year raised money for a Christmas meal for those in need.

Using largely social media and word of mouth, Ian Martin has begun collecting money from local businesses who have pledged to donate money.

In the first of a number of visits to shops in the town last Wednesday (6th December), Mr Martin collected money from businesses including Handyman House, Monmouthshire Hearing Centre and Helmet Hers, and brought a handmade Christmas card for business owners to sign.

This is the third year he has organised the appeal, raising £140 in the first year and more than £400 the second time around for a Christmas meal, held in previous years at the Christian Fellowship in Wyesham.

It is hoped that this year’s event will raise even more, with funds going towards a Christmas meal for those less fortunate and those who otherwise may be isolated or alone.

The appeal, which aims to raise awareness and money, has so far been a success, with Mr Martin saying even a schoolchild had donated their pocket money for the month of December.

The meal will be held on Christmas Day at Wyesham Christian Fellowship and, this year, at Monmouth Methodist Church due to increased demand.
