A POPULAR Monmouth pub is to be closed for around three weeks for safety reasons because of a ‘collapsing’ interior wall.
The issue was discovered at the Grade II listed King’s Head Wetherspoon in Agincourt Square after a recent structural survey. It was found that the wall between the customer area and the kitchen is collapsing, and will have to be taken down from the second floor to the basement.
The building is thought to date back to the mid-17th century.
The pub and hotel will be closed for an estimated three weeks, although no date for reopening has been set.
Pub manager Chris Jenkins said: “It is disappointing to close the pub and hotel, however work needs to be carried out in order to make it safe for our staff and customers.
“We will aim to have the pub and hotel open in three weeks time, however, we can’t confirm an opening date at present as the work might take longer than we expect.”
All pub staff have been redeployed to other Wetherspoon pubs in the region or have taken holiday time.
