SIR,

Sick of treating nits while some other parents evidently do not bother?

Sick of spending £30 per month on nit shampoo?

Everyone is eligible to free nit shampoo from their GP.

There is no excuse for not treating your nit problem. Yet many people do not bother, and so the problem keeps reoccurring.

If everyone claimed their free nit shampoo from their GP, perhaps it would make the nit nurse in schools a more viable proposition for councils.

We should start a campaign: Bring back the Nit Nurse, or 'Scratch it, Catch it'.

If a teacher notices a child scratching, she should simply give the child a letter to go home with, alerting the parent to the fact that their child was seen scratching.

General letters to all parents do not work.

I think this would be a better, more targetted approach, without any fear of stigma or ridiculous PC (do nothing) attitude.
