An 11-year-old Cross Ash boy who saved his dad's life has been named 'Child of Courage' at the Pride of Britain awards.

Tom Phillips came to dad Andrew's rescue when a bull went berserk at their farm in Cross Ash in May.

The youngster jumped into a tractor and managed to keep the bull at bay until help arrived.

Last week the Beacon told how Tom had been given a personal invite to the Pride of Britain awards by Richard Hammond after the Top Gear presenter landed a helicopter at the farm.

A star-studded ceremony took place on Monday (3rd October) in London, with Tom picking up his award from TV presenters Carol Vorderman and Ant and Dec.

He was also invited to a reception at 10 Downing Street yesterday (Tuesday) by Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.

"It was really good fun, so exciting," said Tom.
