PUPILS from Haberdashers’ Monmouth School were engrossed in a workshop led by the internationally acclaimed Bookshop Band.
Ben and Beth from The Bookshop Band visited Haberdashers’ Monmouth presenting an array of workshops, rehearsals and performances which brought pupils together from across the school and the wider Monmouth community.
Pupils from Nursery to year six gathered in the Recital Hall and performed a selection of songs inspired by books and , including: “We are the Foxes” and “One button Benny”.
Joe Walton, Head of Music, said: “It was an absolute honour and privilege to spend the day with the children who were captivated from the morning workshops to the final notes of the concert.
“Many colleagues commented on how deeply touched they were. You created an experience that will stay with our pupils for many years.”
Two of the Year 6 classes took to the stage to share their own music compositions based on Michael Marpurges War Horse, 6RU performed Cool Deep Water and 6BP performed ‘Joey Joey’ all lyrics were thought of and written by the pupils.
The afternoon brought together Year five pupils from a range of Monmouth Schools, from Overmonnow Primary, Kymin View Primary and Osbaston Church of Wales school. Together the schools practiced a sing-along session inspired by books and were supported by Ben and Beth and were guided by music staff.
The evening brought the music all together as students, staff, families and the Monmouth community gathered at St Catherine’s Hall to deliver a performance demonstrating all the hard work they had put in throughout the day and The Bookshop band played alongside pupils.
The day was full of excitement, and entertainment and it highlighted the importance of all schools coming together to deliver a performance showcasing all their hard-earned work and talent.
