A pair of brave young fundraisers skidded into Monmouth yesterday (Tuesday 10th July) on their route from Lands End to John O' Groats.

15-year-old Alfie Wiener and Jamie MacDonald, from Scotland, are longboarding the huge 840-mile distance in an aim to raise money for two charities.

They arrived in Monmouth yesterday having travelled from Chepstow that morning, and aimed to reach Hereford by the afternoon.

25-year-old Lawrence Cronk from Dingestow, Monmouth, has joined the boys on this mammoth task as their support rider.

The ex-Monmouth School pupil saw the boys' plea for a support rider online and applied, beating off 120 other applicants before getting the job.

"I am well into my cycling so it made sense to do it," said Lawrence.

"The boys are amazingly determined for their age. They are a bit slow first thing in the morning but they soon wake up".

Alfie and Jamie began their journey on 2nd July and are longboarding an amazing 35-40 miles per day.

The longboard is larger than a skateboard and is lower to the ground, with larger wheels for less pushing.

The boys described the downhill stretch from Chepstow to Tintern as their favourite part of the trip so far.

The charities the boys are supporting are Whizz Kidz, a charity that gives disabled children the chance to lead a more independent life, and the Teenage Cancer Trust.

The team's original target total was £10,000 but within just the first part of the journey the boys have been supported by 120 donors, surpassing their original aim in raising more than £12,500. They have now moved their target amount to £15,000.
