A BEARDED dragon has been found dumped in a plastic bag on a Monmouth doorstep.
The female reptile was found in a seriously emaciated state with multiple wounds to its body on Cornwallis Way yesterday (Tuesday 13th December) and sadly has yellow fungus disease.
RSPCA Cymru routinely warns members of the public as to the specialist needs which animals like bearded dragons have, and the level of responsibility involved when they are taken on as a pet.
Annie Janes, RSPCA animal collection officer, said: “It beggars belief that anyone would dump this helpless animal in such an awful state, like rubbish in a carrier bag. Her wounds are severe, she has toes missing and is seriously emaciated.
“This poor bearded dragon must have been through an absolutely terrible time. Abandoning an animal in this way is completely unacceptable.
“Reptiles often have very specialist and specific needs, and it is vital people do their homework, if they ever consider adding one to their family.
RSPCA Cymru is urging the public to come forward with any information as to how she was dumped in this sorry state. Anyone with any information to help identify how this bearded dragon ended up dumped in a carrier bag can call 0300 123 8018.
