Sir,
On Friday 1st July, at an all day meeting of Monmouthshire County Council at Cwmbran, the latest stage in the battle against the Wonastow Road development was lost by a narrow margin of four votes.
Stop Monmouth Drowning would like to acknowledge the efforts of councillors Bob Hayward, Sue White and Alan Wintle in their consistent and principled voting across the day to oppose this and other equally destructive sites across Monmouthshire.
Stop Monmouth Drowning would also like to thank town councillors, Mayor Gerry Bright and particularly Cllr John Fletcher and (archaeologist) Steve Clarke for their energy and endeavours.
Finally, thanks to Tom at Fingal Rock, and all the family at Somerset Road Stores, Sam at the Three Horse Shoes, and others for all the petition signatures, those on the bridge, and all those in Monmouth who signed this petition.
We feel that this is not over yet.
Mike, Lesley, Georgie, Lin and everyone from Stop Monmouth Drowning
