Awards evening for Rockfield
Rockfield Rovers held their annual awards evening at the Bells Golf Club in Coleford, with the top players getting awards. The night was promised to be a good one since Rockfield Rovers were crowned East Gwent Division 1 Champions on the 26th April after beating Tintern Abbey in the final and deciding league game of the season and came out on top 2-1 winners on the day. We continued with further celebrations of our own with the presentation evening, with awards being picked up by 1st and 2nd team players. The presentations were presented by Vice Chairman Neil Williams, starting with the 2nd team players the Most Improved Player went to Steve Hollingsbee, the Players Player and the Managers Player both went to Nick Brown who again has had a very good season. Then onto the 1st team players, with the Most Improved giving Manager Dave Macdonald a headache and he could not decide between two players so it was shared between Jed Haney and Mike Walters. Players Player was again a close call and only one vote in it, but it went to Danny Bowen who has had a tremendous season, and the Managers Player of the Season went to Dan Macdonald who has netted a massive 47 goals in 21 league games and 21 goals in 9 cup games! After a successful evening and season Rockfield Rovers had gained automatic promotion to the Gwent County Division 3 League with some hard work from Club Members and sponsors the club passed the ground criteria needed to be accepted into this league. Rockfield Rovers would like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved in making it possible for our club to get promotion into the Gwent County, are thanks go to: K&K Car and Commercial Ltd, Margaret & Rob at the Green Dragon, Rob Rennie of RRP&C, Les Bartlett of Castle Construction, all the gang from Londis and Alan Turner who have all had their input to getting us promoted, Thank You all from Rockfield Rovers!!
