ALL roads lead to Rome, they say… even in Monmouthshire!

Motorists were left scratching their heads when this road sign appeared at the bottom of Monmouth’s Manson Lane.

After all, they’d only set out on a short trip, and a 1,240-mile journey to the Italian capital definitely wasn’t the destination when they set off.

But it’s good to know that the Romans’ legendary road building is still opening up our horizons.

The signs were in place confusing motorists for four days, but have since thankfully been taken down.

A little exploration up the two-mile long lane, which crosses the border between Wales and England (but not Italy!) then revealed that the “Access as far as Rome Only” referred to ‘Rome Farm’.

While Rome wasn’t built in a day, perhaps next time highways can make things a little clearer.
